Exclamation Mets & Orioles to play in Hall of Fame game

http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/a...=.jsp&c_id=nym

Quote:
The 2007 Baseball Hall of Fame Game will feature a flashback to the 1969 World Series as the New York Mets and the Baltimore Orioles will play on Monday, May 21 at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y., a tradition started in 1940 and continuing today as the only in-season exhibition game on the Major League Baseball schedule.
Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr. is expected to be the focus of the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on July 29. A two-time MVP who played in 2,632 consecutive games to break Lou Gehrig's record streak, Ripken is considered a certain first-ballot inductee next year.

I would have thought a SD/BAL matchup would have been interesting with Gwynn and Ripken at the top of the HoF class

The Orioles should sign Ripken to a one-day contract and allow him to play in the HOF game.

Jays replacing Mets in HOF Game

MLB.com

Quote:
Due to a television scheduling conflict, Major League Baseball announced Friday that the Blue Jays will replace the Mets in the upcoming Hall of Fame Game, which is scheduled for May 21 at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The Mets were originally scheduled to take on the Orioles in the annual exhibition game. That was until ESPN recently selected the Mets-Yankees Interleague matchup for its Sunday night broadcast on May 20. Now, Toronto will play Baltimore in a rematch of the Hall of Fame Game in 1998 -- the last time the Jays played in Cooperstown.

"We were thrilled with the original matchup, but when Major League Baseball and ESPN have a chance to have the Mets and Yankees on the national Sunday night game of the week, we certainly understand," Hall of Fame president Dale Petroskey said in a release. "We're excited MLB has offered the Blue Jays. They've become one of the best teams in the American League."
