After the race in Phenoix where Jeff Gordon tied Dale Earnhardt's 76 wins, the fans freaked out throwing beer bottles and such at the 24 car as Jeff made a lap flying the number 3 flag out the window to honor Dale.
WOW!!!!! I see this as a bad mark on the fans of NASCAR and the late Dale Earnhardt. Why in the world would anyone want to bash a guy to paying tribute to one of the sport's greatest? I can't figure it out. Jr can't seen to figure it out either. Quote from article. "They were business partners, in properties and in companies. They worked together," Little E said of his father and Gordon." NASCAR.COM - Junior considers Gordon gesture a tribute to father - Apr 25, 2007 |

It's because most Earnhardt (#3, not #8) fans are Gordon haters, it's just that simple. It's been that way since Pretty Boy Gordon won his 1st Championship. I used to be one of them, now I can tolerate Gordon. IIRC, Gordon has the distinction of being the only driver in top of the most Liked and Most Hated polls. With success comes worship and derision, Gordon seems to be burning the candle at both ends.

NASCAR handed that race again to Gordon. Either the caution should never have been flown or should have been flown right away after Reuitmann's engine gave way. I flat out see where Stewart is coming from in his comments.

The entire Earnhardt (Sr) / Gordon rivalry was manufactured by Dale for marketing purposes. There was a length article in the St. Pete Times on Sunday talking about how Dale had helped jumpstart Jeff's career to begin with...
I mean, literally, this was like "Days of Thunder" -- Californian/Yankee who has everything (or so it seems) versus the blue-collar establishment of NASCAR and their icon-of-the-time (Earnhardt). |

Jimmy Johnson is Jeff Gordon's teammate. Gordon has a stake in Hendrick's Motorsports and when Jimmy wins, he wins. There is no ill between the two. It's not exactly "Shake'n'bake!" from "Talledega Nights" but they are on the same team.

Gordon also owns a percentage of Jimmy's team.

Johnson was a nobody until he signed with Hendrick. The only thing I remember about Johnson before he signed with Hendrick was when he had that spectacular crash at Watkins Glen, got on top of his car, and and waved to the crowd that he was ok.
