Default Mark Martin

Are there any MM fans out there? I like Mark and would really like to see him race all year but I just don't think he will. Just saw a interview with him and he said he's going to stick to the plan which is to only race so many times this year but not the full schedule.

What do you think he should do?

Go 17 Go!!!

I like to see him race every week. I like to see him give Jimmy Johnson a run for the Championship.

Golf has a requirement that those trying to participate at the highest level are required to compete in a certain number of tourneys. Does NASCAR have this same requirement?

If he thinks that he has a better chance of winning by racing only twice a month he should do so, my biggest question though is if the points system would allow him to be in The Chase at the end of the season using this method.

I would love to see Martin finish up the season. He is doing great so far this season a 2nd and two 5th place finishes.

If he takes a couple races off there is no chance he will finish in the top 12 and make the “Chase for the Cup” Even the 43rd place driver in the race gets 34 points. He only wants to run 20 races this season and missing six races before the ten race chase wouldn’t make that possible.

I would love to see him go for the cup but I think he's got his mind made up.

I think if he is in the top three in points he is going to have a real tough time deciding. If he is 6th on back I don't think he will have as tough as time.

The thing that surprises me most about Martin this year is how good he is doing driving for Ginn Racing. Although Ginn Racing has some sort of parts relationship with Hendrick racing. They historically have never been successful and even this season their other two drivers Nemechek and Marlin are #20 and #30 in the points standings compared to Martin's first place standing. That just goes to show you what Martin is still capable of doing I guess.

Nemechek and Marlin are better on the short track. Nemechek hasn't been in top ten in years.

Quote:
HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) -- Mark Martin was bubbling with enthusiasm Sunday after his fourth straight top 10 finish since leaving longtime employer Jack Roush for Ginn Racing.

In past seasons, there would be considerable speculation about the four-time NASCAR Nextel Cup points runner-up finally winning that elusive championship.

Not this year.

Despite the best start of his long career and being in the points lead, Martin confirmed Sunday that he will sit out the races next week at Bristol and the following week at Martinsville, ending a string of 621 consecutive starts.

He will probably drop down to about 15th or so in the points.

That's not too bad for Martin. It's a shame he won't run Bristol. This will probably be the first finish outside the top 10 for the 01 car this year.

Well maybe Marlin but Nemechek doesn't really do that good at Bristol. Mark has had 1 top ten outta the last 8 at Bristol while Sterling has had 3 in those same 8 races. Nemechek has only one win in his carrer at a short track and Marlin has notta. Mark Martin can lay claim to 7 short track wins and 47 top 5s along with 76 top 10s.

If I were Martin, I would add more races, because I think he would make the chase.
