Ken Dayley 48 Tuesday Pete Smith 41 Wednesday Marty Perez 60 February 29 Al Autry 57 Friday Ron Gant 42 Saturday Matt Diaz 29 Intersting group this week. Dayley was traded for Ken Oberkfell and became a decent reliver for the Cardinals. Smith went 7-0 in 11 starts in 1992, one of the young guns before his career fell apart. Perez was traded to the Giants along with Darrell Evans. Autry's major league career was only one game. But it was a good one, he started and went five innings and got the win. I'll bet Gant regrets his dirt bike experience. Diaz I thought was older. |

that makes Ron Gant 26 in the spring of 1991, and me 23.
Damn, I think I'm old. To think, on the final day of the season in 1991, I was draped across the hood of a car in downtown Atlanta with a bottle of champagne in one hand, and a cigarette in the other as the cacophony of car horns and police sirens filled the cavernous streets of the city. Eventually, traffic just stopped, and a street party broke out. The last thing I remember, is leading the Chop at 5 Points Station, and toasting the Home Team with an elderly black guy , who actually had tears in his eyes as he whispered in my ear over the din; "It's Meant to Be this time."
