Default Writer of ESPN article feels our pain

ESPN.com - MLB - Helyar: Fans find no fun in sale of Braves

"Does anybody really think Liberty CEO John Malone will invest in this team? The man long known as the "king of cable" lives for dazzlingly complex transactions such as the "cash-rich split off" that just brought him the Braves. His fascination with numbers quite likely doesn't extend to earned run averages. As lawyer-fan Fowler puts it, "He's a fan of business, not baseball."

On the other hand, does anyone really think the lords of baseball will reject Malone as an owner? By setting the Braves' sale price at $450 million, Liberty Media serves their purposes splendidly. That robust figure helps buoy the value of every other MLB franchise.

Their team might as well be renamed the Atlanta Loopholes."

He's right, we are not stupid. Unlike those that call us less of a fan because (fill in the blank), or the media fools that attempt to make themselves into a internet mesage board mogul. They do nothing but enhance their real personna of the village idiot.
It would indeed be nice to have Ted or maybe Arthur run this business. On second thought, maybe not Arthur, as he allows the hot shot QB run the team.

If Honest Bud had any damned integrity at all, he'd veto this one for the good of the game. Of course, we all know what the chances of that happening are.

True all - why would MLB owners really care if this is good for the Braves organization or not? The bottom line is, "what will it do for me"?

So much for the theory out there that Liberty will attempt to upgrade the value of the team in the next 2-3 years, so it is more marketable.

Obviously, the cost of team franchises are as equally inflated as
the cost of player contracts. It would be nice to appoint one who is familiar with the business of ML baseball to mediate/advise between the business aspect and what matters on the field.

That said, I don't think the finalization of this deal will have that much of an impact on the attitude of the guys on the field.

Why is it that this feels like a bunch of business men playing real world Monopoly?

"I tell you what. I'll trade you Pennsylvania Avenue, My Two Railroads, and the Atlanta Braves for $1000, Marvin Gardens, and a get out of jail free card."

Hopefully they don't land on Luxury Tax any time soon.

=======

Anyways, Bud Selig doesn't have the sack to overturn this deal. He's a spineless creature that caters to George Steinbrenner. The only way this one gets overturned is if the SEC steps in to stop it. And, I'm not talking about the home of Dawgs, Commies, and the Cocks.

As for what happens in the future? Status quo... status quo... You want to keep that "stock option" looking slightly pretty when you trade it in for Park Place. (Damn Monopoly analogies)

$80 million payroll of the aging stars of the past and some young'ins. Sorry Andruw, Mr. Steinbrenner is calling on line 1.

According to Ben Maller, MLB is looking into the fact that Liberty Media owns a sports betting website. I hope they veto this asset swap and I hope they do it fast.

Now THAT is interesting. Allowing such a group to have MLB ownership would give Pete Rose some precedent to cite (provided he can spell "precedent"). Given Selig's natural (and well-deserved) hatred for Rose, perhaps he will use this to squash the deal.

Hmmm.....
