Yes, but #1 gets hurt even more. He reads these forums, too, you know.
Maybe I should further explain my comments, actually. Back in the long-ago days, when we all knew each other on a little oasis we called BaseballBoards.com, the community was growing to such a point that a lot of non-baseball chatter was building on the forum. That chatter caused a problem -- our mandate was to buiold a community, but we were also founded to provide a safe haven from the distractions that begat forums like those on ESPN -- those that were full of off-topic discussion, backbiting, and childish behavior. We wanted to be the focal point for intelligent discussion about baseball (and eventually, other sports, as well), and having a ton of off-topic discussions isn't conducive to that. The solution? Create a "BBQ" forum, where people could talk about "everything else." Since the BaseballBoards were first and the other Boards came later, as each sport forum was added, they got their own BBQ, but eventually we leaned toward a communal forum. Anyway, the whole point of the BBQ setup was to create a communal area for all discussion AWAY from the team and topic boards. Having a BBQ on each team board kind of defeats that purpose, and leads us toward the troubles we sought to avoid in the first place. On top of all that, having a BBQ on each board just leads to greater isolation of smaller communities. I think that's what some of the individual Scout Admins would prefer, but it's not what we want here on FanHome. Hope that helps!! Last edited by Nocahoma; 02-10-2007 at 04:27 PM. |

The reason I don't like the Braves BBQ at the other place is that many of the threads are dominated by smack talk and profanity. I came to enjoy and appreciate adult discussions on these boards, not refuge from a frat party.
While many of the threads are enjoyable, there are enough to drive down the overall quality of the board as a whole. Banning about five people from that board would help the BBQ, but they seem to prefer banning people for other reasons. |
