Exclamation Helton willing to go to Atlanta

Todd Helton confirmed that he'd be willing to accept a deal to Boston, though if something is going to happen, he wants it to get done quickly.

Helton is also willing to go to Atlanta, though with the Braves' budgetary concerns, that hardly seems likely to happen. According to the Denver Post, he wouldn't accept the previously rumored deal to the Angels. The Post also says that the Red Sox offered Mike Lowell and Julian Tavarez for Helton and about $40 million of the $90.1 million he's owed over the next five years. If the Rockies want youngsters, they'd presumably have to eat more of the contract. It looks like the Red Sox have little interest in doing a deal that isn't clearly favorable for them.

I'd like to see that, but $90mil (or some chunk thereof) for someone already on the decline (even though he's still very good) isn't something I see AOL shelling out for.

Unless the Rockies pick up a big chunk of his contract I don't see that happening. He is from Tennessee, so I can see his desire to play here. I lived in Knoxvbille his last year in college and he was fun to watch.

He was also a great college pitcher. If Wickman goes down, maybe he could be our closer.

Soriano will be your closer soon. No need for Helton for that.

Between his decline and his terrible contract, I really don't want them to shell out in this case.

Well if the reports are true and the Rockies are willing to pay 50 % of his remaining contract. Helton @ 45 mil is not a bad thing at all, I highly doubt we go after him but for 45 mil, I know I would. Especially if Druw ends up leaving he could be that big bat to step in for Druw

Helton's road OPS:

2004: .990
2005: .871
2006: .781

That's such a precipitous decline that I am no longer sure he even qualifies as a big bat, much less a $45 million big bat.

I know he's had health issues the last couple of seasons, but he hasn't been producing stats in line with his salary. That said I'd love to have him, but I'm 99.9% sure dollars would prevent that. I do think though his stats will be under the microscope in Boston if the rumored trade goes thru.

I for one, have never appreciated Helton's so-called production...very streaky, maybe worse than Andruw in that department...not to mention his defense

edit: maybe I just don't like him, lol
