Apparently, our strategy for winning is to become more like the Pirates.

Is John Vander Wal available? What about Wehner? If I recall correctly, Pittsburgh management has some odd demotivational tactics for their arbitration eligibles. I think Wilson can bounce back. Granted, I believe this was threatening to non-tender useful players, which seemed so foreign once upon a time.

Turning out to be a good off-season.

O dln't know if the Braves will win or not this year, but at least we can see that JS is making an effort to try to get something done.

I am glad to see JS bolstering the pen. I'll save a lot of money not having to buy Pepto and all the other antacids during the latter innings of the games.

I think we'll be fine, Lenny.

I still don't see much success coming out of that rotation... Smoltz' arm could fall off any day now, Hudson seems to get worse every year, Hampton coming off TJ is a question mark, we don't yet know if James will repeat his season or start giving up the gopher balls (his minor league fly ball ratio, if continued at the big league level, would be the highest in the game's history, and it was pretty high in the bigs as well), and Davies has yet to show any signs of adjusting to the big leagues. And frankly, there doesn't seem to be much ML-ready depth if any of those five fail or get hurt.

The rotation does bother me a bit too, although the Braves may have a few more options this year that are a tad bit better than what they had last year. Oscar, Cormier and Tanyon seem to be a slight upgrade from musical chairs employed last season. Yet, still I suppose they don't strike much fear in the opposition.

What will help though is the stronger bullpen that should require less innings out of the starters. Certainly has been a different approach by JS to building and structuring a pitching staff.

Despite his inconsistency last year, I rather like Villareal as a reliever, but I really believe his success as a starter was a fluke. Sturtze hasn't shown me much in the little I've seen of him, but I'm willing to give him the chance to prove himself. Cormier is just plain terrible.
