I know he is due a raise but do the Braves have to trade him?
After a down season for him , the raise may not be as much as it once was. Marcus is not a lead off hitter that was evident this past season. His best spot is the 2 hole. But Rentria also likes the 2 hole.So who would you keep? Thoughts? |

I'd like to keep him, and I don't think the raise matters much, but typically small players like Giles peak early. His value may never go back up.
If the Braves can get more than just a reliever for him, trade him. If not might as well keep him and let him walk next year for draft picks. |

ok, I know this is going to be an out there question, but what about Willy Aybar? Can he play second, can he lead off, and is he good enough to be an everyday player? If the answer to those 3 questions is yes, then I think we have a better choice for second already.
By the way, is he playing winter ball? Does anyone know? |

Like most here, I would love to keep Giles, but according to all rumors, he's gone. But, then again, what are rumors?
OTOH, I definitely wouldn't let Renteria go. He's signed and we know what the cost is and we are set at SS for a few years. If we trade Renteria to keep Giles, we may very well have neither if we can't sign Giles, which is at least iffy. No way do I want to lose Renteria. |

texas I'm with you , they have to keep Giles.
Aybar is filling the role that Derosa did a few years ago. Some how JS has to find a way to keep Giles and Rentria. I do not think the $80 million dollar cap will stick but who knows. |

That's all I think about is the second half with him. I wonder who will be there next year, the first half player or the second half player. He has had a lot of ups and downs in his career so I can't say that I'm sold on him, but it would be hard to replace him for the money we are paying for him now.

Or, to back that up... Renteria's OPS in 2004 with StL: .728. 2005 with the BoSox: .720. First half of 2006 with the Braves: .861. Second half of 2006 with the Braves: .722. That's a pattern in my book.

I almost believe I'd like to see if JS can work a deal to trade Andruw (I don't want too, but you don't always get what you want). If that works out (still think Boras will tell him to invoke 10/5), then you use some of that money to keep Giles. Otherwise trade Giles.
BTW, great to see familar names. |
