Default Marcus Giles non-tendered

Wasn't sure if this should go in one of the other threads or not... but it's official. Marcus Giles is no longer an Atlanta Brave, he's now a free agent.

Reitsma was also non-tendered.

I would still love to know all the reasons behind this. I still can't believe that we coudln't get anything for him at all.

I just absolutely hate this move. It's mind numbingly stupid. Flat out stupid.

He's always got a fall back plan. You know, like his son that hit .180 last year, but hit .500 in spring training.

Just ain't no way to spin this, except it being a massive brain pfart by a senile old dipstick.

I am disgusted beyond words. There is no way you can tell me that we couldn't have traded him for something if it was decided that we didn't have the budget for him. The decision to not spend $5mil for one of the upper tier 2B in the game comes from the owners. The decision to non-tender him instead of getting something for him is JS's fault. I don't know- maybe he was trying to make a statement like when he traded Millwood for a backup catcher after Maddux accepted arbitration. Regardless, this is a sign of the times for a once proud franchise. In this offseason where mediocre players are getting insane dollars, we wouldn't pay a pittance for one of the sparkplugs of the team.

I think we fans have some tough years ahead of us. The only thing I can say is that maybe we can get rid of the bandwagon fans; they will be jumping off in a hurry when they see the team we are looking to field next year and beyond until we get an owner who cares. Buckle up Braves fans- we are in for a tough ride.

Yo pfiggy! Well, I finished the worst season of any fantasy league I have ever played. Pauliethemoron put together a ridiculous scoring system and I forgot that he chose a foolishly early draft date. I wound up with Yahoo's pre-ranked auto-draft and had an indescribeably bad team. It was my own fault and I'm not making excuses, but it wasn't a lot of fun playing a team that had zero chance of success since the very beginning. The only consolation is that he lost in the first round and that it was a Steeler player that buried him.

And I really don't give a schmidt what happens to the Scout Braves site. This is where I am posting now and I hope it does well. I have enough teeth-gnashing to do over the Giles situation without worrying about bill.

I agree rrandom, we are in for quite the tough ride. The ownership doesn't give a crap about this team, and the Giles situation was just a fiasco. Just wait until Andruw walks this year.

On the other hand, when Giles rebounds and has a good year, I can't wait for the JS apologists to try to spin it again how it was a good move.

Well, this move has pretty much convinced me that JS needs to be shown the damn door. I just cannot think of a justification for this one.
