Default Doggie could be changing Zip codes soon

With da Pads 8th home loss in 8 games, it looks like they are getting ready to jettison payroll even though they could still win in the pathetic NL West.

Quote:
Alderson says he is prepared to shift stances should the Padres close to within about 6˝ games of first place by the All-Star break but adds, “We're certainly not trying to kid ourselves at this point.”
SD UT article

Quote:
Not much escapes Maddux's notice when it comes to baseball, but nearly nothing escapes his mouth. Having spent parts of 10 seasons with the Cubs, the four-time Cy Young Award winner is an obvious candidate for a return to Wrigley Field.

But when asked yesterday about whether he might be willing to waive his no-trade clause, Maddux was customarily close-mouthed.

“I'm pitching tomorrow, dude,” he said. “Ask me next month. . . . Honestly, I'm just really trying to get ready for tomorrow, dude, and I don't want to be out of that frame of mind.”
My guess is it Cubbies first, then Bravos.

I imagine the Brewers are on his list now, too.

Maddux could help the Cubs more than us, though I wouldn't mind seeing him lose 2-1 for us again. Plus, I'm sure he'd want to get to the playoffs again and try to go out with a bang. With our injuries and subsequent hitting problems, we could have Webb, Lee and Saunders pitching for us and we'd still struggle. Unless we get 100% healthy soon, I think we're doomed to end up right where we are.

Bowman: Maddux deal to Braves seems unlikely

Quote:
When asked where he could see himself playing during the final two months of this season, Maddux said, "Here or for the Dodgers, but I don't think the Dodgers need any pitching."

Because the Braves are focused on developing their young pitchers and seemingly have a greater need to acquire offensive help, there is a very slim chance they'd attempt to acquire him and assume the approximate $3.33 million salary remaining on his contract for this year.

If the Braves came calling, Maddux says he'd likely approve the trade because his family would approve of the two-month transition back to the East Coast. His wife, Kathy, and his children visited friends in Atlanta for the Fourth of July.

"That would be a possibility," Maddux said. "That would be easy for me with my family. At this point of my career, it's family first and baseball second. That would fit for my family."

Still it doesn't seem to be a fit for the Braves and that is why Maddux might never again pitch in the presence of Cox. The Braves aren't scheduled to play the Dodgers or Padres again this season.
Sheesh... The Pads are handcuffed. I can't imagine the price would be exorbitant without anyone else to bid against us. It's really an ideal situation for the Braves... a guy who it seems would only accept a trade to two clubs, and the other doesn't need a starter. Two of the current "young pitchers" we're apparently intent on developing ain't getting it done at the big league level. We can't count on any of the four injured starters coming back at all this season (and the one most likely to return, Glavine, is a #5 starter now). Does performance just not matter to this front office anymore?

By the way... remember that little contract Selig and his cronies made Liberty sign before allowing them to buy the Braves? The one that said they can't cut payroll while they own the team? By my reckoning, we have something in the neighbourhood of $40 million coming off the roster this winter. Be real interesting to see how Wren spends that money, IMO (if Selig has the cojones to make them live up to the deal, that is).

I honestly do not think Maddux wants to move. But if he does, you know he'll want it to be with a team that has a legit shot. I do not think the Braves are in that category. Therefore, I do not think he'll donning a Braves uniform again. (Although nothing would please me more)

Not only are the Braves not setting the NL East on fire, I'm sure Maddux can see Huddy and the other starters losing by one run or getting a no decision half the time they pitch. Greg has been there and done that with us already.

That stolen base was classic, eh Nado? You just know Glav and Smokes were just crackin' up on the inside.

Chipper gave him a goofy grin for sure Dice.

The exodus has begun in SD: T Clark to AZ. So Towers, Alderson & Co aren't worried about the old rule of not trading within one's Division.

Well with both Clark & Wolf gone now, Doggie looks to be the next likely candidate especially after his 14th consecutive ND (9) or L (5), even he's gotta be getting tired of that. HOU only gave up a nothing AAA guy for Wolf. Even the biggest homer of journalists in SD are calling this team boring. They actually have a $1 hot dog/ soda offer ($1 off beer) for all home games in July & still aren't drawing.

Today's SD UT basically said it was down to NL West contenders, so I guess the BIG THREE reunion is OBE.

Doggie to Stinking Dogs imminent. As a side note Greens injury is just another way of the Pads rediscovering a new bottom daily.
