tidbit pfrom Braves official site:
John Smoltz underwent successful arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Tuesday afternoon. Whether he'll be able to ever pitch again will be determined during the next few months. After noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews completed the surgical procedure on Smoltz, the Braves announced that the veteran pitcher's future as a player will be determined following a rehabilitation period. "The prognosis on John's shoulder is unclear based on the findings of today's surgery," Braves general manager Frank Wren said in a release. "We will know more as John starts to progress through his rehab." During the surgery, Andrews found Smoltz's labrum to be the most damaged region of his shoulder. |

Right, GBF, from what I've read it's a full year for recovery - longer for someone who makes his living pitching. Great athlete that he is - even if Smoltz made it back in the minimum amount of time - it's just not plausible.
I think he'd love to come back to pitch, but would be equally happy in the booth. WE all know JS loves to yaketty yak. Of course, anything is possible - this is John Smoltz.

As much as I'd love to see Smoltzie return, that quality of life thing will matter once he's done with baseball especially if he still wants to play golf as much as he does now. take the hint John, time to bid the game goodbye. :sigh......:
