That's the Mariners board thread on subject. I'm putting updates there as I get them, but they include every Mariner site denying the rumor.

Quote:
The Braves, trying to complete their longstanding quest for a setup man, are discussing a trade of left-hander Horacio Ramirez to the Mariners for right-hander Rafael Soriano, FOXSports.com has learned.

Soriano, 27, went 1-2 last season with a 2.25 ERA in 60 innings. He appeared in only seven games the year before after undergoing elbow-ligament transplant surgery on April 1.

With the Braves, Soriano would set up for closer Bob Wickman, whom the team re-signed as a free agent.

Ramirez, 27, would be a candidate for the Mariners' rotation. The Mariners have been seeking to add two starting pitchers this off-season.

Not at all, deal is being denied by both the Mariners and the Braves per two seperate sites.

From Dave O'Brien of the AJC:

Quote:
ANYWAY, yes, this HORACIO for SORIANO thing is very close to happening, and it would be a HUGE deal for the Braves. Unless and until Horacio develops into a stady starter, the Braves would have won that deal by getting a nasty, nasty setup guy with closer potential.

They’re still waiting word on Gonzalez’s elbow, and this Ramirez/Soriano trade would NOT preclude the other from happening. If they get both, the Braves could go from on of the worst to perhaps the BEST NL bullpen, and that’s no exaggeration. And be set at setup and closer even after 2007 when Wickman’s gone. Wow. What a day.

More from O'Brien:

Quote:
Soriano for Horacio is a DONE DEAL. Hasn’t been announced yet, but done. Gonna write story and wait for announcement.

Don’t know if the other deal for Gonzalez will get done. Conflicting stuff I’m hearing, some saying that Littlefield’s dragging feet, others saying it’s Braves. I think the former….

so is ESPN they aren't going with it and the wire story they have only says "verge" and "close to"

Shanks stated that the Gonzaelz for LaRoche deal was done, it is not, it is dead.

Mlb.com is reporting the same thing.

Gonzalez-LaRoche is dead.
