Default Hampton makes winter ball debut

Thought I would post this since I know how much you folks like Mike Hampton

Quote:
Atlanta Braves left-hander Mike Hampton pitched one inning and allowed one hit with one strikeout in his Mexican Winter League debut Thursday for Novojoa the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. It the first of seven starts Hampton is scheduled to make as he embarks on his latest comeback bid.

He has missed the past two seasons recovering from elbow surgeries, and the Braves are cautiously optimistic about the possibility of Hampton returning to the starting rotation in 2008.

Although team officials said two weeks ago that Hampton hoped to pitch three innings in his winter league debut, that decision was apparently reconsidered before Thursday.

What are the odds he makes it to the regular season injury free?

4% sounds just about right for getting out of the Mexican League injury free. I give him 0% for the majors but because he's a Brave, I'm behind him 40%!

He didn't even make it out of the Mexican League.

That's impressive, even for Mike.

He really should call it a career next winter. For some it's just not meant to be.

Then again, there was still a bidding war for Kerry Wood.

What did the Braves expect? He made his obligatory appearance and that's it. What a joke.

The article said part of his contract is covered by insurance. I know the team is paying around $15 million, but it is prorated due to the deal in the trade.

So do we just get lucky and get all the insurance money or is there a clause in the deal giving part of it to the Rockies or Marlins?

Well, the consensus opinion around baseball is that the Braves are lying, and they didn't have insurance on him last year and don't have it this year.

If they are telling the truth, I'm pretty sure we get it all.

At least he had the courtesy to break down before the Winter Meetings!

"Hampton has had eight stints on the disabled list since being traded to the Braves after the 2002 season."
