By the non-Yankee accounts this is mostly bull, but they are talking (with Boras, not A-Rod), and he will resign very, very soon with the Yankees at a paycut.... because no other team in baseball will speak with him.

Smacks of yet another collusion scandal, IMO.

Edit: I should say according to all non-Yankee meedia this is bull, because even Hank Steinbrenner says this report is a crock.

I really hope the Angels or the Dodgers get this done, just so we don't have to hear about a collusion scandal.

I as well, but they won't meet with him. He's going to have to crawl back to the Yankees at a $30 million pay cut.

Twere it me, I'd say to hell with 'em all and quit for a year. Perhaps take that Mud Hens offer. No way I'd go back to a place I was miserable under these circumstances.

Well I told ya that once the Yankmees were removed from the equation, the $$ insanity factor would work against Awad & Borass. Neither NYM or Bosox, the only other two spending stupid teams in MLB, were in the market for him at his asking price & current player needs.

The albatross remains around the NYY's neck Hip hip hooray!

One step forward, two steps back.

I swear JS is still making the decisions.

It is a troubling report, but I probably trust Bowman less than Mr Videor Bravum Imperator over in the nexus, and certainly less than O'Brien, and each of them has controverted Bowman's tenuously phrased "conclusions."

If he's right, and Anderson is the starting CF for the Braves in 2008, then we are in trouble; I'm giving Wren just a (very) little more rope.

Heh... so the Phillies released the guy who was at one time the centerpiece prospect in the deal that sent Bobby Abreu to New York. The Yankees promptly signed him to a minor league deal.

Okay, pure rumour here, folks... I cannot vouch for this as being from a reliable source in any way whatsoever.

The Yankees and Twins have supposedly had preliminary talks about a Johan Santana trade, and the Yankees are expected to make an offer. The Yankees have said they're really not interested in trading Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, or Ian Kennedy, and the Twins are apparently just fine with that. The offer is alleged to start with Melky Cabrera, Alan Horne, and Jose Tabata.
It's been said part of the reason the Twins have accepted not getting bigger names is that Santana has a full no-trade, and he's apparently told Twins management that if no extension is signed, he'll either go to the Bronx or finish his contract in the Metrodome.
He allegedly said that he would not accept a trade to Boston unless the Sox either offered an overwhelming extension, or were willing to make the trade without extending him as part of it.

Well, if he's that set on going to the Bronx, at least he won't end up in Queens; but if Johan Santana loves the Yankees (or the attention and annual salary that comes from it) this much, he's no longer one of my favorite players and I hope his career takes a downward turn (maybe it already started in 2007, when his rate numbers did regress some).

Of course, like you said, these statements are belied by their speculative nature, so he may never play a game in New York (or never in 2008); and, I have always had a soft-spot for Santana since 50PoundHead and I watched him languish needly in the Minnesota bullpen in 2002 and 2003. Might of been a smart time for a perceptive team to pick up a such a player and capitalize on unperceived potential by another team — too bad Schuerholz didn't run a tight enough gaming-ship.

BTW, the rumour also states the the extension he would want from a non-Yankees club is in the neighbourhood of six years and $160 million.

Twins close to landing Delmon Young

Possibly Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett, and Juan Rincon to Tampa for Delmon Young, Brendan Harris, and Jason Pridie.

This doesn't seem like a very good deal from the Tampa Bay perspective, IMO.

Well Tampa Bay now has a real good trio of hurlers, and a questionable OF with Crawford and then Rocco/Upton/Dukes taking the other 2 spots....

Im cruious as to what the Twins will do next. They wont need uoutfielders anymore but they might need pitching. Will they sitll trade Johan?

I wonder if we could somehow get involved Doubtfull thogh

I really like the deal for the Twins, provided Young's isoOBP rises closer to his career minor-league average of .050 (and thus his OBP over .350), and also continues to develop his power.

However, Garza has a lot of value: in both the minor- and major-leagues, Garza has been a similar pitcher to Chuck James (of whom I have a high opinion) – though Garza gives up more hits and fewer home runs. I think this is an excellent move for the entire Devil Rays team, even if trading Young – and swapping Brendan Harris for Jason Bartlett – for the rights to Garza might have not been a completely even exchange. Minnesota, on the other hands, upgrades their OF and SS offense with cheap players whom they control for at least four subsequent years.
