We acquired Todd Redmond in the process of sloughing off excess Yates; his career numbers appear neither bad nor inspiring:

pfrom rotoworld:
Braves sent first baseman Scott Thorman outright to Triple-A Richmond. It's about time the Braves came to their senses and realized that no one was going to pick up Thorman. It's a move that should have been made last summer when Mark Teixeira was picked up. Thorman's exit would appear to clear a spot for Joe Borchard to make the team. However, it remains quite likely that the Braves will acquire another bench player. Braves claimed infielder Ruben Gotay off waivers from the Mets. The Braves didn't want to carry Brent Lillibridge as a bench player, so Gotay will join Martin Prado to give the Braves two backup infielders until Omar Infante returns in late April. At that point, the one of the two playing better figures to stay. Gotay should get the odd start at second base versus a lefty, but it's doubtful that he'll have any fantasy value. Umm, they missed the boat there. Gotay cannot hit lefties at all. He also cannot play SS or 3B.
Pretty sure his time in Atlanta will be short.

I still like the move to get Gotay. It give Lil'Bridge a chance to play everyday and Prado will more than likely get most of the chances in the field as a utility guy. Infante will take the place of one of the two when he comes back and they got him for nothing. It's really no real downside to this deal.

The almost pfinal roster, less any additional trades or waiver claims. They still haven't decided on Carlyle or Bennett.

The Professor still has it at times:
Greg Maddux went nine up, nine down in his final start of the spring Friday as the Padres topped the Angels 4-1. Maddux called it a night after throwing just 24 pitches, 19 for strikes. He'll start the third game of the season for San Diego. |

Also pfrom Rotoworld:
Mark Kotsay went 2-for-2 with a steal and made a fine diving catch in center field Friday against the Indians. His best game of the spring. Kotsay wasn't going to lose his job this month, but he's shown little on offense (.246/.283/.298) and diminished range in center field. He's going to need a hot start to give himself some additional job security. Ah guess two balls hit over yer head is called diminished range now. That's being kind, ah reckon, almost every deep ball this spring has been over his head. |
