Being an ardent UF fan – and feeling regardless that a second place team shouldn't have the chance to replay the team that won their conference, especially when their last game of the season virtually was a conference championship game – I am wondering how people feel about the National Championship debate.
It seems pretty clear that the SEC was the best conference in the nation, and the numbers say Florida had not only a better strength of schedule than Michigan, but the best overall in college football; the team played an underachieving Alabama, a very solid Kentucky team, Tennessee, current-#5 LSU, lost a pretty close road game to a then-highly ranked Auburn, and then beat Georgia (who beat ACC runner-up Georgia Tech), South Carolina (who beat once highly-rated Clemson), and #8 Arkansas fairly convincingly despite third quarter issues – a win that ensured a conference championship. To me, that trumps Michigan's wins against Wisconsin and an overrated Notre Dame, without even considering the conference championship angle – and especially, with all this talk of style points, considering the fact that Michigan struggled against teams like Iowa and Ball State. But, a lot of people don't agree with the notions that UF is a better team than Michigan, or more deserving of the BCS Title berth. |

I went to the Florida - Florida State game a couple of weeks ago and it was apparent to anyone with eyeballs that Florida tried to give that game away. If FSU's offense had stepped up even just the tiniest bit, UF would've lost to a paltry FSU team who's surviving on reputation alone. As it is, they had a pretty big scare. I love the SEC, but Florida is not up to snuff for this game. I think it proves the inadequacies of the BCS system more than it does the legitimacy of this Florida team. |
