I don't think it is all about the money any longer with him. Sure there is a big difference between 5M and 25M but if the Braves or Dodgers offer him about 12 to 15 per, you think he would not thnk about it?
He really doesn't need Borass in his corner anymore and I would be a bit surprised to see him retain him after this new deal, wherever it is. |

Borass may have just committed seppuku for Awad. There are only two other teams that would pony up that much for 1 player & they're both in the NE.
Nobody else has the income to support that type of largesse. There has to be an ownership angle in this somewhere.

I'd take A-Rod. I know a lot has been made about his postseason in the press (and, apparently, in here too
So yeah, I'd take A-Rod. |

The Yanks and Marlins are reportedly in some pretty serious discussions about getting Miggy Cabrera into pinstripes to play third. The Marlins are supposed to want Hughes and Melky Cabrera, but since Miggy could see $10+ million in arby this year they are willing to discuss Melky+Kennedy+someone else.
That's an upgrade from Betemit.

Arod a Met?
North Jersey Media Group providing local news, sports & classifieds for Northern New Jersey! And, it's not nice to make Buddy mad... A-Rod and Boras didn't make any friends in the commissioner's office, either. Protocol says that no news is generated during the Series; the industry-wide blackout is observed in deference to the sport's premier event. But Rodriguez was the prime topic of discussion during Fox's broadcast Sunday night, trumping the Red Sox' sweep of the Rockies and their second world championship in four years. "There was no reason to make an announcement [Sunday] night other than to try to put his selfish interests and that of one individual player above the overall good of the game," Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "[Sunday] night and [Monday] belong to the Boston Red Sox, who should be celebrated for their achievement, and to the Colorado Rockies, who made such an unbelievable run to the World Series." One baseball official suggested A-Rod opted out on Sunday because he knew the Yankees were about to hire Joe Girardi, whom he didn't want to play for. So instead of bolting after Girardi's coronation and making it appear he was rejecting the new manager, A-Rod left hours before, under the guise of not having enough time to assess the direction of a team in transition. That ploy may have saved Girardi some embarrassment, but it didn't buy A-Rod good will anywhere else. Except, maybe, in Queens, where the fantasy lingers: just how would those 150 RBI look in the Met lineup, anyway?

Would they really ditch the far lower priced Wright or Reyes to accomodate that salary; especially with their pitching situation? Methinks not. It would of course get the yankmees bent a bit outta shape, but at what cost.

The Official Site of Major League Baseball: News: Major League Baseball News
Torre spoke openly on Friday night about the possibility of Alex Rodriguez signing with the Dodgers, citing his improved relationship with the third baseman as a strong potential selling point. "All I know is it was very comfortable for both of us," Torre said of his relationship with A-Rod, which was once admittedly strained. "I think my being uncomfortable came from the fact that I didn't think he was as comfortable. This year, he just seemed to be a different guy in Spring Training. I was surprised that he opted out, I really was. But you have to do what you think you need to do." __________________________ When asked directly whether or not he expected to manage A-Rod next season, Torre repeatedly offered only, "it's a possibility." "As far as Alex, you've got four or five clubs maybe that figure to be in the sweepstakes," Torre said. "There aren't a lot of clubs that are going to be able to pay the money to get him." The Dodgers are reportedly one. Not two weeks after A-Rod opted out of the final three years remaining on his contract with the Yankees, most Major League teams have publicly said they won't pursue him on the open market. The Dodgers -- along with the Angels, Giants and Mets -- have not. All other things being equal, Torre's Dodgers would seem to have an inside track. Aside from the improved relationship between manager and player, A-Rod already has an existing relationship with two of Torre's coaches, Don Mattingly and Larry Bowa. ____________________________ Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner have repeatedly confirmed that they do not plan to pursue A-Rod as a free agent. The Yankees do plan on offering A-Rod salary arbitration, cracking open the window that he could return under a one-year contract. But Cashman said this week that the team is doing so only to receive compensatory draft picks from whichever club ultimately signs him. The Yankees do not expect him to accept the arbitration offer. ...and, things would not be complete without a left-handed compliment from Jeter... "There aren't too many people in the game that can do the things that he does," Jeter said. "But we're trying to win. Like I've said time and time again, it takes more than one person to win. We've had teams that have won, and we haven't had numbers like that put up. So you don't necessarily need those types of numbers to win." you go Derek!
