Sorry, that dog just won't hunt. He said he wanted to play for a competitive team & even da Mutts were still in it then. I have never bought the Borass excuse of the no trade clause, that's an even bigger pile of BS. 66 % more with zero chance of PS play...... You can believe it if you want, but that boy flat out lied. I'd play where I feel comfortable & could achieve my goals unlike a lot of people in this country, I'm not about the $$, but we know Awad is, his actions betrayed his word. I take a man at his word & Arod's I worthless to me. Let's leave it at this Snowy, you'll have a better chance of convincing Noc, that Rose is true HOF material...

JS tells the story in Built To Win two different times, and both times he says the sticking point was the no-trade clause, and that negotiations were finally ended once they realized that a no-trade clause just would not be included under any circumstances. He even called Boras demand for a NTC "unacceptable."
So it wasn't just Boras' story... it was Boras' story, A-Rod's story, and Schuerholz' story.

Schuerholz' also said that Boras and A-Rod requested a meeting with ownership over the deal in an attempt to get the NTC added because, in Boras' words according to JS, "owners get it. You don't get it." JS refused to set up the meeting.

A NTC in a 150 million contract, makes no sense as who would take him other than another BIG $$$/competitive club as has proven true. Not only that, but the original club would still have to foot/eat part of the contract IE. Hampton & Arod if he was that big a lemon or whiner. Just a stall tactic while Borass looked for more $$$.

If the Yankees' extension offer is for something in the range of $150 million, over five years, then Rodriguez would be owed about $230 million over the next eight seasons.

Some executives are convinced that no other team will come close to the enormous extension offer the Yankees intend to make, and rival agents and executives are reading the steady stream of public negotiation rhetoric from agent Scott Boras as a bluff. But some officials cite Boras's history of taking his clients into free agency, and say they think Rodriguez will leave the Yankees.

Either way, it is the Yankees' intention to pay Rodriguez well, with a record-setting salary.

Were I him, I'd sign elsewhere anyway, even if I had to do so for $5 million a year. No way I'd stay there to carry that pitching-less team on my back every year and be constantly shat upon by the media and fans for my trouble.

And THERE it is, right there. Boras is a good agent. He knew when Arod went free-agent the first time from Seattle, that if he could maximize THAT contract, then it would set new market values for every other one of his other clients. THAT is why some ass-clown GM is gonna give Andruw Jones north of 95-110 million over 5-7 years.

Somewhere in the world, right now, is the first player to get a 10 year, 500 million$ contract. Probably a 10 year old LHP in the Dominican.
