per Dave O'Brien:
Braves, Glavine to dance again? | Braves | ajc.com ...because it’s only a one-year commitment, it should permit the Braves to go hard after a trade for a younger quality starter, a guy like Oakland’s Dan Haren or Joe Blanton, who could be available only because perpetually tight-budgeted Oakland needs to reload with prospects and knows it might have to dump one of its quality young arms to get a few young players in return. Glavine and Haren (or Blanton) better than Glavine alone - me likey.

Yeah longtime, that and the pfact we'd have Hampton, James, Reyes, and maybe Glavine. So we'd have to get rid of James or Reyes, who are young and may or may not have some upside. Hampton and Glavine don't have an upside anymore. Ah don't see us startin' 3 lefties either, especially as none are a Randy Johnson type, but that's another thread.

I want to see us add two starters, #3 and #4 quality, one of whom is an innings eater... but I really don't want one of them to be Glavine. He was a #4 starter who pitched more than 200 innings this year, but his salary will be that of a #2. We need to be smarter with our resources than that.

Eh, that wouldn't really bother me, as long as the right guy in the 5-hole getting skipped. Glavine and Chucky should most def not pitch on back-to-back nights, as their respective styles are too similar.

ooh, poetry
Well, even though Glav declined his option with the Mets today - he had stated in one interview that he could still work out a new contract with them. I think he'd love to come to the Braves, and, by declining the option, he has opened that opportunity - but, he's no dummy and will be back pitching at Shea should JS and he not come to terms. (or, should an offer never materialize) Whatever happens with Glav - I won't care either way - as long as we get at least ONE young starter of the studdish kind.

Well, I guess I'm the odd one here. I want him here. Tired of watching pitchers that are not ready trying to learn at the MLB level. I want him because he is at the very least consistent, a concept our 3-5 pitchers never caught on to.
