Giguere signed to four year extension

The Anaheim Ducks have announced the signing of goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere to a reported four year, $24 million contract extension.

"J.S. Giguere has been an instrumental part of this franchise for the last six years," said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke said in a statement. "We view him as one of the top goaltenders in the NHL today, one with tremendous character and competitive fire, traits we value greatly in this organization."

Giguere was integral in helping the Ducks capture the franchise's first ever Stanley Cup this past season. In 18 playoff games he posted a record of 13-4 with a 1.97 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

"I'm very excited to be staying with the Ducks," said Giguere in a statement. "Orange County has been a great place for my family over the last six years, and we are grateful to the entire organization for the opportunity to stay here."

This past season the 30-year old net minder set a franchise record for wins with 36. He also captured the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP in the 2003 season. He has the longest playoff overtime streak in NHL history, going the first 170:03 of his career without giving up a goal.

Decent signing. Obviously an integral part of the cup run and will most likely still be elite four years from now. Still a lot of money though, Luongo like and Luongo>>>Giguere. 5 Mil would have been more appropriate IMO.

Giguere is one of the best goalies in the NHL and he played a huge part of the Ducks' championship.

I agree big signing if the Ducks' have any chance of repeating next season.
