Sure they did.
Their most glaring weakness last season was between the pipes. They now have Toskala. That one change alone will prevent the "one-point" exit of last season.
While their scoring was very respectable, especially in relation to the rest of the league, they still could use some help, especially on Sundin's wing. Enter Blake, who, while not in the same league as Sundin, is closer to him than anybody we currently have.
Peca *might* return, and if he does, he's a terrific defensive forward perfect for any PK line. Our own PK improved during the time he was here. (Although nobody wants to pay him what he got last season.)
Welly; Ponikarovski; Steen; Stajan; White; Colaiacovo... all young guys continuing to improve. Next year should be no different.
Antropov is *finally* coming into his own.
Yes, I think the Leafs will make the playoffs, somewhere near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. 8th or 7th, most likely, and with a whole boatload of luck, perhaps 6th.
Anything can happen after that...
