Have to disagree, there, Tyler.
Going back to 1939 as a wee kid, lucky enough to have seen many greats before they went off to WW II [and missing seeing Lou Gehrig in action by one season], Bonds is in an elite class of four hitters, after which come all the rest.
As the story of Lou Gehrig's ALS unfolded, I did see films of him in action before the tragic illness struck him down. No player since, except Bonds, has exhibited that short, sudden, devastating stroke that Gehrig had.
The elite 4 are Ruth, Williams, Gehrig and Bonds; and Bonds is the legitimate heir to the HR crown, not having a pitching career and personal excess; or 2 stints in wartime military service; or ALS to abbreviate his career opportunities.
Bonds is money in the bank. Pujols, A-Rod and Vlad are terrific; but at this point, they are promissory notes.
