Can we at least try to be fair with the greatness of JD DREW....
Yes he has had three seasons where he had an OPS of greater than 1000...
His first year- 14 games, 36 AB's... 1436 OPS (hardly worth discussing given the small sample)
2001... 109 games (HE missed 1/3 of the year). had 375AB's and had an OPS of 1.027.... the number of OPS sounds great!
and 2004.. when he missed 20 games.... and the OPS was 1006..... he had 518 AB''s and that is close to a full year.... so it is only fair to use it. HOWEVER, in 2004... his Pre-Allstar OPS was: 1062.... his Post All-Star OPS was : 939..... so he slows late in the year....
As a matter of fact here are a few little interesting CAREER OPS tidbits about Drew...
Indoors: 1002
Outdoors: 865
Pre- Alstar:935
Post All star: 865
Oct: 835
Other interesting career numbers:
Pre- Alstar HR's...106
Post Allstar HR's 56
Pre- Alstar Rbi's... 307
Post Allstar Rbi's 202
Here's his career OPS against the AL....
BAL 935
BOS 1175
CWS 931
LAA 664
CLE 787
DET 553
KC 888
MIN 956
NYY 347
OAK 476
SEA 457
TOR 650
Now all of these are with real small samples.... but it honestly doesn't appear he is great against anyone in the AL but the Red Sox!
