Pitching is always important, but especially so when facing a team such as the Devil Rays. And with a young but healthy lineup ready to face Toronto in the middle of the three-game set Saturday, Jays starter Tomo Ohka will have his hands full.
"If they get guys on, they're going to try to run you out of the ballpark," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "If they get the right guys on, it's a track meet. They've got as much talent as anybody. They're young and inexperienced, but talent-wise ... boy."
It'll be the talented Ohka's first regular-season outing with the Blue Jays, after arriving in camp and going 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in five Grapefruit League appearances (19 innings) with eight strikeouts. The 31-year-old righty impressed all the right people and earned a spot in the starting rotation as a result.
He's been equally impressive against Tampa Bay, having never lost at Tropicana Field (2-0) and holding the Rays to a 0.94 batting average against him there in eight Major League seasons.
