I read on another forum that it was mentioned on The Dan Patrick Show that the A's and Piazza were in "serious negotiations."
I like Piazza as another low-cost gamble. While his drop-off at the bat was greater than Thomas', Piazza is a better health risk and hit quite well in 2006 away from Petco Park.
He put up a .292 EQA last season. So he'd be a downgrade from Thomas' .316 EQA. But at least we'd still have a competent hitter at DH, plus hopefully a full season from Milton Bradley and Bobby Crosby.
