Default NL Focus: Ranking the Infielders

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn...c.php?t=172849

1. Cardinals

1B Albert Pujols, 2B Adam Kennedy, SS David Eckstein, 3B Scott Rolen. Reserves: Aaron Miles, Scott Spiezio.

There's no better pair of corner men than Pujols and Rolen. Kennedy and Eckstein don't have much pop, but they're dependable. Spiezio is dangerous off the bench.

2. Phillies

1B Ryan Howard, 2B Chase Utley, SS Jimmy Rollins, 3B Wes Helms. Reserves: Chris Coste, Abraham Nunez.

The infield is expected to be the team's lifeblood at the plate; Rollins gets on base at the top, and Utley or Howard drives him in. Other than Rollins, this group may struggle in the field.

3. Mets

1B Carlos Delgado, 2B Jose Valentin, SS Jose Reyes, 3B David Wright. Reserves: Damion Easley, David Newhan.

Most of the club's offense is generated by the versatile infield. Reyes, sure-handed but not a particularly accurate thrower, is the only above-average defender.

4. Marlins

1B Mike Jacobs, 2B Dan Uggla, SS Hanley Ramirez, 3B Miguel Cabrera. Reserves: Alfredo Amezaga, Aaron Boone.

Cabrera and Ramirez form possibly the league's best-hitting left side. Uggla has 20-homer power. Now that his ankle is healthy, Jacobs might not be replaced for defense.

5. Cubs

1B Derrek Lee, 2B Mark DeRosa, SS Cesar Izturis, 3B Aramis Ramirez. Reserves: Ryan Theriot, Daryle Ward.

The pitchers will welcome Izturis at shortstop. DeRosa is solid, not spectacular. Lee, who is healthy again, could challenge for another batting title. Ramirez is coming off a career year.
