Default New nets? Is this serious?

This can't be serious, right?

Ouch... light nets... now I can die, I've seen everything.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Phantoms COO Frank Miceli announced today that the Phantoms have teamed with Litnets, Inc. to debut an exciting new element to the club's upcoming home games in the month of November. The Phantoms will be shooting at a Litnets illuminating hockey goal that will light up when the team scores a goal. The new net will make its first appearance this Wednesday, November 15, when the Phantoms host the Syracuse Crunch at the Wachovia Spectrum at 11:05 AM.

"We're always looking for new ways to give our fans a great experience at our games," Miceli said. "We're very pleased that we were approached to be one of the first teams to use this net in a professional setting. We think our fans will really enjoy it."

The nets come from Litnets Inc., a company based in Ottawa. Litnets has developed and patented the new hockey net, which contains thousands of miniature light emitting diodes (LED) in the posts and crossbar. When a goal is scored, the net is activated by a goal judge and the posts and crossbar light up.

Litnets has produced four prototype hockey nets and used them to conduct a market research campaign during the 2005-06 season in minor-pro and junior hockey games. The company found that an overwhelming majority of the fans attending game where the Litnets were used approved of the product. The nets have been used in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game.

There is media availability with the new net before and after the game. Please contact Mike Thornton or Brian Smith for more information.

Tickets for this Wednesday afternoon's game with Syracuse, Friday's rematch with Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton and all Phantoms games are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200. As always, kids tickets are just $8.00.
