Default Rockies Dim Interest, Pads Part Ways with Edmonds

An update to the Colorado Rockies' interest in Anthony Reyes - Rockies owner Dick Monfort is not in a hurry to acquire another starter for the rotation, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post:
Despite the team's poor start, he said the Rockies have no plans to acquire a frontline starting pitcher or even a fifth starter such as Cincinnati's Josh Fogg. Monfort is comfortable giving prized pitching prospect Greg Reynolds a shot starting Sunday in San Diego.
The Rockies could very well be in the hunt for another starter in the weak NL West in a month, but for now they'll go with Greg Reynolds, their 22-year-old tall righty. Anthony Reyes will make his first start of the season for Triple-A Memphis tonight, so this will be an important day for him and the Cardinals organization. If he can string some solid starts together, we could be revisiting the Rockies, Angels, or Braves as potential trading partners. Stay tuned.

The San Diego Padres have also made some Cardinals-worthy news, cutting Jim Edmonds, our former All-Star center fielder. He certainly wasn't an All-Star for the Pads in his short time there, hitting .184/.270/.241 in 87 AB. It's tough seeing Jim struggle so much this year and last year, and I hope he makes the right decision for his career moving forward. There might be some teams wanting to take a flier on Edmonds, but I wouldn't be opposed to having him come back as a coach, a la Larry Walker.

The move could impact the Cards' trading plans as well. The Padres, desperate for offense, promoted Jody Gerut from Triple-A but are still in the market for an outfielder. Their best trading chip could be Khalil Greene, who is still struggling mightily at shortstop. It could be a good time to buy low on Greene, or it could be a big red flag cautioning us to stay away.
