We probably can get a good pitcher back for Melky, but I’d be hesitant on trading him.
We all seem to be unanimous with bringing Lilly aboard. Let’s get him and I think we can get by with Wang, Mussina, Lilly, Johnson, and Karstens/Rasner until Hughes/Clippard/Sanchez are ready.
Toby Hall would be a nice addition to backup Posada. I’m not so sure about Hillenbrand though. Didn’t this guy cause problems in Toronto with the manager? That’s not going to fly in this clubhouse.
As for Torre, this will be his last season. I wonder who’s going to replace him, Donnie Baseball or Girardi, perhaps?

I would never trade Pavano at this point or even if he comes back and proves he's healthy. What's the point? You're not going to get anything of value for the guy at this point with his contract and history of not pitching. Plus, only National League teams would even look at him, as he has not shown whether he can even pitch in the American League to this point.
What kind of pitcher do you think we can get for just Melky?
As for your rotation point, that sounds like a good plan.
Toby Hall as the backup catcher? I actually was the one to mention that in my post earlier in this thread. The guy is a decent defender who hits his weight, which is something that our recent backup catchers have been unable to do it seems. Also, Toby Hall does not strikeout often. He is a contact hitter, which is a big difference over what our previous backup catchers have been able to do as well.
It could be Torre's last season. It might not be. Depends on what happens this season and postseason. If we win the World Series or even make it there, I think the decision to return will be up to him. He could retire, he could not retire. If they don't make it to the World Series I think George is going to end it. As for his replacement, I would go with Girardi, but I think George is grooming Donny to be the future manager.
