Giants finally make a big splash, sign Zito to largest pitcher contract ever
7 year, $126 mil. It's the largest contract ever for a pitcher. Good for Barry being able to maximize his FA payday and manage to not have to move. From the Giants perspective, I guess if you're gonna sign a pitcher for almost $20 mil per year it might as well be a guy who has never missed a start, and I suppose that by the end of the contract his salary might not seem all that out there (although I guess it depends on how it's structured).
Even though it's hard to stomach seeing a fan favorite cross the bay, it is nice that he didn't sign with a division rival or end up another cog in the Yankee machine.
Oh well, good luck to Barry. I've never had a favorite player on the Giants before but he's it now. I hope he personally does alright as long as it isn't against the A's or in helping the Giants win anything worthwhile.
