This move was officially approved by the Arizona Sports Authority last week,
the move should happen in 2009.
The White Sox have for the last three years attempted to get the
Indians to move to Tucson, and in the last two month alone have tried
unsuccessfully to get the Tribe to move. The Tribe has decided against the move because of logistics...mainly no direct flights from Cleveland to Tucson,
and having to bus to almost all of the away Cactus League games.
The major reason behind this, the Pale Hose have to pay 28 million to leave
Tucson Electric Park if they don't find a replacement for TEP. By not having
a replacement in place... the CWS in their infinite wisdom... asked the
Arizona Sports Authority to NOT FUND any other Cactus League projects
until a replacement was found. This would have almost forced the Indians
to Tucson, but ASTA refuse. Great now the White Sox are playing games
off the field as well.... as if Indian fans needed another reason to despise
the White Sox.. this just adds icing to the cake.
What this all means is that Tucson most likely end up with no team, and
the Dodgers and White Sox will wind up in a shared facility in Glendale.
