I don't see why it matters if a player re-signs with the team that traded him after 30 days. While some players like Payton and Stackhouse don't mind re-signing with the teams that "trade" them for CBA purposes, there's no guarantee that the other team (New Jersey, in this case) will release them. Furthermore, even if the other team does release them, there's no guarantee that players would be eager to sit out a month before re-signing with the same team. I know that if I were traded, I wouldn't necessarily re-up with my old team. I'd want to explore all possible free agent opportunities.

Stackhouse is an idiot for making his intentions so transparent, but I don't see how the league has any right to punish him for exercising his right to serve out the 30 days and then re-sign. What if the Suns, Lakers, Spurs, Celtics or Pistons called him up with an offer? Would he immediately reject all of them? I could definitely see a Western Conference team trying to disrupt things for Dallas by making Stackhouse a superior offer.
