Admirals return, lose in shootout
After three weeks and 10 games on the road, the Milwaukee Admirals were able to find their way back to the Bradley Center on Wednesday night.
Now, if they could just find their way to their opponent's goal.
Three weeks on the road might have helped the Admirals' team-building efforts, but it doesn't seem to have done much for their goal-scoring abilities. The Grand Rapids Griffins, a team the Admirals had beaten twice this season by a combined score of 11-3, escaped with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Admirals.
Despite the lack of tangible evidence, Milwaukee coach Claude Noel was upbeat about his squad. It didn't hurt that the Admirals outshot the visitors, 34-24, on the night.
"The thing you have to look at is, are we getting chances?" Noel said. "If you're not getting chances, that's a much bigger problem."
The difference boiled down to Grand Rapids goalie Jimmy Howard. He was outstanding in the nets, turning away 33 of the 34 shots he faced.
