After Scott Hairston happened, I had a whole long rant prepared about how we were getting beaten by the best GM in baseball. Hairston was acquired for peanuts. So was Heath Bell. Doug Brocail is making less than we're paying Ortiz, and has been rock-solid. Joe Thatcher was obtained for Linebrink, in a deal that the Padres players couldn't make any sense of at the time, but which obviously worked out extremely well (and looked great at the time, by the numbers).
But so much for all that. This was the kind of game that almost makes one buy into the "team of destiny" notion. Just amazing stuff.
