The soon-to-be 17-time champion Boston Celtics caught a major break in not winning the No. 1 pick. It set into motion a series of trades that made basketball relevant again in Massachusetts. I can't begin to tell you how depressing it was to be a Celtics fan these last several years, attending games in a half-empty white elephant where the primary entertainment was watching Lucky the Mascot hit shots that none of the Celtics could make.
Had Boston won the lottery, there would be no Ray Allen, no Kevin Garnett, and now no Greg Oden who might not even be that good in the first place. It would have been yet another twist of the knife into the hearts of loyal Celtics fans.
