The Orioles, searching for a right-handed-hitting outfielder, need to expand their search beyond Luis Gonzalez who was offered a deal by the Dodgers. Orioles executive vice president Jim Duquette told the Baltimore Sun that the club is, “moving forward on some other options.” Sources tell the Sun that a proposed three-way deal with Houston and Detroit for Marcus Thames hit a roadblock and that only a three-way deal would land Thames. The Orioles are also considering Jay Payton who sources say could be offered a two-year deal worth $4.5 million each season.
Thames would be interesting... and not TOO old (Will be 30 during the season)...
I could not see going after the 34 year old Payton, who really has never been anything (outside of Colorado) and will probably never be anything
