I realize this is probably going to be a stretch, but its possible the Royals are banking on the success of M's starters after they leave Seattle (Big Unit, Freddie, Hampton, Lowe, Fuentes, etc.)

With the talent that the Royals currently have, there's a real good chance that Gil will be their all-star rep in San Francisco next summer.
