20 Games of Baseball - What do we know?

Filed under: Baseball | by bedir @ 11:35 am

We are twenty games into the long season of baseball, all of 12%, is there anything that we know?

One thing that is obvious is that Alex Rodriguez could strike out for the rest of April and the still be the AL-Offensive Player of the month. His performance is possibly the greatest we have seen in a single month ever. With the off-season rumor that he would opt out of that immense quarter billion dollar deal at the end of the season the fans in Boston are starting to consider if he should be added to their club.

While still early there have been some surprising performances as well. Notable to me is that of Gil Meche of KC. At what point does a hot start become a streak, become a noticable permanent improvement?

We have seen Closers lose their jobs (Brad Lidge is biggest name). Phenoms and Stars have been hurt, which is typical, but never a good day for those teams. Felix, A.Soriano and Rich Harden have effected their teams’ chances of success.

In all that what I’ve learned is that I know that the weather has been poor this April, that A-Rod has become Mr.April and that Seattle Mariners only have one good starting pitcher.

About 20 games in the divisions leaders are;

AL East - Boston 13-7
AL Central - Cleveland 11-7
AL West - Angels and Athletics tied at 11-10

NL East - Metropolitans 13-7
NL Central - The Young Brewers 13-8
NL West - Dodgers 13-8

The young season is starting to sort itself out, by the nature of its length the only thing we know is that there are still 140 games for a team to surprise and delight its fans. There are 97 days until the trading deadline when Rumors and Rosters are more important than the game.
